Mrs. Sadana

Biography:

Mrs. Sadana is in her 12th year teaching with the Alliance.  A former environmental chemist, she’s been passionate about science since childhood.  She’s very excited to be teaching high school Chemistry this year, building on her work as a College for Kids Chemistry teacher for elementary and middle school students.  Mrs. Sadana attended the University of California Riverside, where she earned a B.S. in Environmental Science with a minor in Sociology. She later furthered her schooling with an M.A. in Education, Biological Science. Her teaching philosophy centers on students opening their minds to the curiosities that surround them and thinking outside the box.

Chemistry Course Description:

Chemistry is the study of matter and the structure or composition of all things in the environment. It deals particularly with the study of changes in matter.  As such, this course covers topics including the nature and properties of matter, chemical reactions, solutions, bonding, nuclear chemistry, and its human impact, and the chemistry of sustainability.  Our approach is inquiry-based, and incorporates broader explorations of science, technology, society, and the environment. We also focus on the development of literacy skills, as well as those skill-sets which facilitate the practice of science.  These latter include the making of observations, interpretation of graphs and data, and the process of measuring, drawing inferences, and communicating findings.
